Building an inclusive culture, where we value difference and respect our colleagues, is the right thing to do and helps our people to perform at their best.
Diversity of thought, background and experience enables better decision-making, improves the quality of our delivery and helps us to meet the needs of our clients.
Our ambition is that we are fully inclusive every day. This means that our working environment is one where everyone’s experience is important.
Where all our people are treated fairly, and everyone has equal access to opportunities and reward, where everyone feels safe to be themselves. We want to create a culture where it’s okay to ask questions and to understand more about different perspectives, so that we continuously educate and inform each other.
Our inclusion and diversity strategy is guided by three principles:
1 Leadership – we emphasise the importance of inclusion and diversity (I&D, also known as D&I) in the delivery of our strategy at all leadership meetings. We will continue to roll out reverse mentoring to help our leaders to understand the perspective of others. Our leaders take responsibility for their own I&D data dashboards and talent succession plans to improve diversity and equality.
2 Involvement – we involve our people to ensure we create a culture of everyday inclusion together. This has started by training 50 people to be Inclusion Allies. We work closely with Inclusive Employers to ensure inclusion is integrated into our everyday thinking and celebrated during National Inclusion Week.
3 Engagement – we engage all our people through active networks, celebration events and webinars to educate about cultural backgrounds and difference and encourage ownership of I&D at every level in the organisation.
Positive action interview scheme
We are an inclusive employer and committed to ensure our workforce is representative of our diverse society. We therefore make reasonable adjustments and adaptions to our recruitment process to ensure it is inclusive for anyone who wishes to apply. As part of our positive action interview scheme, we will offer an interview to disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria for the role as stated in the job advert. This interview will either be with the hiring manager or the recruiter responsible for the role and we can adjust the format of the interview to suit the needs of the individual.

Empowering the LGBT+ community
Together with Stonewall we are working on empowering our LGBT people to be their authentic selves, enabling them to realise and achieve their full potential, creating positive change. Tackling barriers for ethnic minorities
The Race at Work Charter is composed of five principle calls to action for leaders and organisations across all sectors. We’ve signed the Race at Work Charter as a commitment to tackling barriers that ethnic minority people face in recruitment and progression and that our workforce is representative of our society.
Committed to being disability confident
We have been recognised as a ‘Disability Confident Employer' by the Government’s ‘Disability Confident’ scheme. This scheme supports employers in thinking differently and being proactive about disability, improving how we attract, recruit and retain people with disabilities and long-term conditions. As part of our strategy to create an inclusive environment, we’ll be working hard towards achieving the next level, ‘Disability Confident Leader', part of which includes the implementation of a positive action recruitment process to guarantee interviews for those with disabilities who meet the minimum criteria.
Pledging for gender equality
We are pleased to pledge our commitment to the HM Treasury Women in Finance Charter and to increasing the percentage of female partners from 16% to 22% by December 2020 and 25% by December 2022. We are committed to supporting the progression of women into senior roles in the financial services sector by focusing on the executive pipeline and the mid-tier level.

Championing social mobility
We are a Social Mobility champion as part of the government’s Social Mobility Business Compact. As a champion we are committed to meet a more stretching set of criteria developed by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) and the Social Mobility and Child Poverty Commission. These commitments cover outreach, work placements, recruitment, monitoring and evaluation, and leadership. Ensuring a level playing field
We partner with Access Accountancy for many of our work experience programmes, taking approximately 80 young people per year from lower socio economic backgrounds through the programme. Access Accountancy is a collaboration of more than 25 professional services firms dedicated to improving access to the accountancy profession in the UK. The programme was established in 2014 with the ambition to promote diversity across all levels of the sector in the face of overwhelming evidence showing that applicants from lower socio-economic backgrounds are less likely to be hired.

Working Families is the UK’s work-life balance organisation. They help working parents and carers—and their employers—find a better balance between responsibilities at home and in the workplace. We are working to create a more flexible and agile working environment within our firm. We value the commitments our people may have outside of work and to demonstrate this, everyone has an immediate right to request a flexible working arrangement under our flexible working policy. In addition, we encourage more informal, agile working, encouraging our people to think about when, where and how they work to deliver the best outcome.
Strong minds leads to healthier lives
Time to Change is a growing social movement working to change the way we all think and act about mental health problems. We’ve signed the ‘Time to Change’ employer pledge, in which we committed to change how we think about mental health in the workplace and make sure that employees who are facing these problems feel supported. Since then we’ve trained a group of employees to be accredited mental health first aiders to help support people through tough times. We also have a 24/7 employee assistance programme for practical assistance and emotional support for life’s obstacles. These are just some of the ways we’re building awareness and ending the stigma around mental health.
