Taranpal: breaking out of the mundane

After working in Oracle consultancy for four-and-a-half years, I knew it was time for a change.

I had built up an in-depth knowledge of Oracle and worked with a number of local government clients. While I really enjoyed the client interaction, I wanted more exposure to different types of clients than I was getting. So I joined Grant Thornton – and the first project I did was with a multinational client in a completely different industry.

The enterprise applications practice is growing – with that comes opportunities to grow and develop careers.

This really gives people the chance to get involved and broaden their knowledge of the different clients we work with. While we're our own team, we're also part of the wider business consultancy practice, so I’ve had the opportunity to be involved in different aspects of projects. It feels like we can add more value to clients through our different services. If I don't know the answer, I can be sure there's someone in the firm who does.

That doesn’t mean everything is perfect. As ever, there are challenging projects. But that keeps it interesting. It means I'm always learning and able to take that forward into the next project – and use it to help me progress in my career.

What really stands out is the support within the team. While I'm leading projects, I’ve always had the support from my people manager and project manager to help overcome any challenges.
