Job Description:
We are an industry focused specialist team based within Grant Thornton’s Financial Services Tax practice in London. We advise a range of financial institutions, from large international banks, asset managers and insurance companies to UK based private equity and alternative funds, as well as start up fintech companies. We combine technical expertise with a commercial approach based on experience and deep industry understanding.
The team has experienced significant growth in recent years, and we are looking for an enthusiastic Tax Manager to join our expanding team to help support the delivery of these services and enable us to further develop our offerings. The role will be focused on working with other team members to deliver a wide range of tax services to our financial services clients.
Part of the role will focus on working alongside the partner and director group in growing out the practice, building strong client relationships within the current and target client base. There will be opportunities to develop a deep knowledge and experience of the sector and get exposure to a wider variety of areas of tax including mergers & acquisitions, international tax, finance & treasury tax, tax audits and group restructuring.

A look into the role
As a Tax Manager within our Financial Services Tax team, you will:
Be given significant exposure to clients, working alongside large and complex financial institutions to manage their tax compliance obligations
manage client relationships and, together with the senior team, deliver solutions on standalone advisory projects
be given early responsibility for producing high quality client deliverables whilst developing your commercial understanding of different types of financial institutions, how they operate in different business, product and geographical areas. You will also have financial management responsibilities, overseeing billing and debtor management
support business development, which is fundamental to our success. You’ll be involved in growing the business whether that’s through identifying opportunities on existing clients by developing the client relationship or winning new work
have access to the firm’s training and development opportunities to broaden your technical and commercial skillsets. You’ll have the opportunity to network internally and are afforded a great deal of access to our Partner and Director team
be a role model for junior members of the team, supporting and championing their development and being involved in our coaching and upskilling efforts.

Knowing you’re right for us
Joining us as a Tax Manager, the minimum criteria you’ll need is a professional qualification (CTA / ACA / ACCA or equivalent), and to be confident managing a portfolio of clients.
It would be great if you also had some of the following skills, but don’t worry if you don’t tick every box, we’ll help you develop along the way.
A strong desire to gain and continually improve knowledge of the sector, its products, operations and taxes
You’ll have post-qualified experience working in a corporate tax or investment partnerships team, in practice or in industry, managing projects
Familiarity with Alphatax, CCH, Power BI, Microsoft Office, and other relevant software.
Solid, up to date knowledge of UK corporation tax legislation
Self-motivated and strong team player
Experience in reviewing work and supervising staff in a tax environment
Evidence of managing corporation tax and/or partnership compliance portfolios and strong project management skills
Excellent communication skills in supporting the team and delivering work to clients
Be flexible in order to juggle client commitments and meet deadlines
Excellent interpersonal skills are required in addition to strong oral and written communication skills.
Experience of coaching and developing more junior team members.
